En Perpetua: The Brief of Infinity

All tales are told and recycled. Furniture moved, wallpapers changed, floor plans shifted. All stories are told but stories themselves exist without limit. Billions live on this planet and in the time it took you to read this far billions of stories from different perspectives unfolded. Even in so brief a time, lives began and ended both physically and metaphorically. And countless lives were simply lived without incident. All at once. All different contexts, ages, cultures, and histories. Too much as writers we try to put a beginning and end to a tale that is relatable and human and all too often we are content to settle for the “set in stone” method. The characters did what they did. The story started and ended here, and there is no more and no less, not even in the cracks between the pages. Until others come later to add a new stone slab.

But the truly enduring works are ever evolving. They build communities that add to the mythos, canon or not. Just like life a bit player can be given an amazing story if enough care and time is put into it. And maybe if time had shifted some the situation could have made them the hero.

And so here I offer the smallest part of a concept. A setting where all stories are. They are happening, will have happened, and are going to happen. Where the point of a story is not to be a link in a chain but to be an immortalized piece of art that leads to yet more art basing off it, building it, or even replicating it. Where the community feeds and grows together. Where “this is bad” becomes, “here’s some points to consider” instead of blind defenses. Where all art co exists within the canon and everyone can sharpen their pen and skills together. A realm that is an infinite canvas.

Infinite potential for those with passion and plenty of ever growing material to work from. That is my goal and ambition with this project. This is my elevator pitch for all those with passion to grab their pens and join me in making something truly great. Unassailable because critics will simply be invited to join. To show us how it is done. If you want it, make it, and watch it grow with everyone around you. Good ideas will shine, lesser ideas will be elevated. As a community. That is my grand ambition with this project, I’ll define the setting itself in my next post, but in this realm, concepts hold all the power and this is the concept propelling it Perpetually.
